FAQ
Why Linux?
Windows bad :(
The real anwser is that I don't like windows 11 for it's advertisments, tracking, AI-ness and bloatware that is kept being pushed down your throat with no way to permanentally get rid of it. I did manage to get by with Chris Titus Tech's windows utility for a while, but after using arch on my laptop, I encountered other annoyancess.
I dislike how windows operates internally, how much you have to wait for all of your apps to load on startup, powershell, how there is no way to customize shortcuts and you need to run multiple background applications to make the OS yours. Once, when I was working on a website, I was unable to run npm to see how the site looked, because "something something, unsigned script". Run npm.cmd - it works.
With windows, there are a lot of these annoyances, that are there for no reason. Not to mention, the frequency of crashes has increased drastically in the recent years. "Linux breaks all the time", sure (depending on what distro you use and what you are doing). But when Linux breaks, I can fix it and learn what I did wrong and how to fix it in the future. Windows? Either wait for mercy from MS, or reinstall.
Why Endavour?
The reason I finally switched to Linux on my PC, was because a friend was switching to Linux and since I already burned the .iso to a flash drive, I decided "why the hell not". The reason why I chose Endavour for that friend was because we tried Kubuntu: it fucking sucked (errors in plasma, snaps not working, flatpak not cooperating, wifi problems and more). Without knowing any other choise (except mint, but I wanted her to use something with wayland), I decided on something arch based. Endavour was the first thing that came into my mind.
Looking back, should have just installed mint, popos, bazzite or fedora, but whatever. I'm probably gonna regret this later.
Tbh Endavour is great, but I don't see the benefit over Arch. You still need to use the terminal and fiddle with the OS. The only benefit is that you don't have to install arch manually and it sets up things like time-sync for you. If I ever reinstall, I might try a different OS or just use arch.
Why Arch?
Originally I used mint, because I didn't want to fiddle around with my computer. I fiddled around with my computer anyway, so I decided to use arch, because "if I already have to suffer, I might as well suffer fully".
I went into Arch with the intention to learn how Linux works, which I think is the best reason of choosing it. I didn't blindly copy commands, instead learning what they do and how the thing they interact with works.
I know most people wouldn't want to do what I did, but that's why there are different distros.
Why Hyprland?
The productivity part of using a window manager is in my opinion overrated. I like tiling, because it was more comfortable for me to use on a laptop. At first I used plasma on my PC, but eventually I copied my hyprland config over to it and that's what I've been using ever since.
